The trucker is the standard men's denim jacket: waist length, button front, chest pockets. It layers over tees, hoodies and knits, and under an overcoat in winter. Collared versions in corduroy or suede look a little smarter, and longer overshirt styles work as a shirt or a light jacket. Darker washes look sharper over a shirt, and lighter washes suit weekends.
With jeans, the simplest rule is contrast: a mid-blue jacket with dark wash or black jeans. Matching washes can work for a deliberate double-denim look. Chinos and wool trousers also pair well with a dark trucker.
The shoulder seam should sit at the edge of your shoulder, the hem at the belt line, and the sleeves at the wrist bone. Size up if you plan to wear a hoodie underneath. For a lighter layer, see denim shirts.

Yes. Choose washes at least two shades apart, such as a light jacket with dark jeans, or wear a blue jacket with black jeans. Matching washes exactly also works when done deliberately. Keep the rest of the outfit plain so the denim stands out.
7 For All Mankind and A.P.C. make clean, classic truckers. Gucci, DSQUARED2 and Dolce & Gabbana offer more detailed, design-led jackets. Stone Island focuses on fabric treatments. Returns are free within 30 days if the fit is not right.
