How Saint Laurent began

Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé founded the house in Paris in 1961, and together they transformed the way women dress. Saint Laurent borrowed freely from the masculine wardrobe and gave women the tuxedo with Le Smoking in 1966, along with the safari jacket, the pea coat and the trouser suit as everyday elegance.
