Start with the leg shape. Wide-leg jeans and barrel jeans are the most current shapes and suit most heights when worn with a slight heel or a platform. Straight-leg jeans are the easiest everyday option. Flares and bootcuts lengthen the leg and work well with boots.
Next, pick a rise. High-waisted jeans define the waist and work with cropped or tucked tops. Mid rise suits longer torsos and is more comfortable for sitting all day. Low rise has returned in looser cuts and sits on the hips. If you are unsure, start with the rise you already wear and change one thing at a time.
Sizing differs by label. AGOLDE and MOTHER run close to standard US waist sizes, while Gucci and Chloé use Italian sizes. Rigid denim gives a little with wear, so a snug first fit is normal. Use the women's size chart to compare measurements.
Women's jeans should close comfortably at the waist without a gap at the back. The seat should lift and follow your shape without pulling sideways. You should be able to sit and bend without the waistband digging in, and the hem should suit the cut, from ankle-length straights to floor-grazing flares.
It depends on the cut. Straight and slim jeans look best at or just above the ankle bone. Wide-leg and flare jeans should reach the top of the shoe or almost touch the floor with the shoes you plan to wear. Bootcuts should cover most of the boot.
The best fit is the one that matches your proportions. High-rise straight jeans suit most women. Curvier figures often prefer a contoured waistband, and petite women may need a cropped length. Our free returns within 30 days make it easy to try a couple of sizes.
Balance is the main rule. Wide-leg and bootcut jeans balance fuller hips, straight cuts suit straighter figures, and high rises lengthen the leg on shorter frames. Darker washes look more streamlined, while light washes and fading draw attention to the area they cover.
