How Chanel began

Gabrielle Chanel opened her first shop in Paris in 1910, selling hats from an address on rue Cambon, the street that remains the heart of the house today. Within a few years she had opened a boutique in the seaside town of Deauville, and from there she set about freeing women from the corsetry and fuss of the previous century.
