Louis Vuitton opened his trunk-making house in Paris in 1854, after years of training as a packer and box-maker for wealthy travellers. His flat-topped, stackable trunks were a revelation in an age of rounded lids, and they made the name Louis Vuitton synonymous with the art of travel.
