The story

Chitose Abe founded sacai in Tokyo in 1999 after years working at Comme des Garçons, and she began with just a handful of knitwear pieces. From that small start she built one of the most inventive labels in fashion, known for splicing classic garments together into something entirely new.

A trench becomes a dress, a bomber merges with a shirt, a sweater gains a pleated skirt. sacai's hybrids feel familiar and surprising at once, and they have made the label a favourite of designers and collectors worldwide.

The codes

Hybrid construction. Two or more classic garments joined into one, with contrasting fabrics and volumes.

The denim

sacai treats denim as one ingredient in a larger idea. The jacket here combines wool flannel and denim in one piece, a perfect example of the house's talent for unexpected combinations.
